MOST of us become high-maintenance
as we get older, which is why it costs the best part of $100 a month just to
keep my cholesterol under double figures and my blood pressure below blow-point.
So you'd think I would have some vague understanding of the relationship between
the medical and pharmaceutical industries. How wrong you'd be. In fact, going
to the chemist is becoming complex. After I answer 20 questions to determine
that I am about the only person in the galaxy without some kind of health benefit
card, I then have to decide on generic drugs or the real thing. Why ask me?
If I knew anything about medicine, I'd be cutting out the middle man and prescribing
my own pills and potions.
